The Art of Unfolding

There are moments when I can’t wait to return to a painting, completely immersed in the process—almost like falling in love. Other times, the work feels chaotic, dark, even unrecognizable. But this is the nature of creation—allowing the piece to unfold organically until it reaches its full expression.

Michelangelo once described his sculpting process by saying, “The angel was always there. I just chipped away at the marble until I set him free.” In many ways, painting is the same. Layers are added, each one building upon the last, waiting to reveal something deeper. I work with mixed media—collage, paint, ink, graphite, oil pastels, and even organic elements like sand, flowers, and leaves—constantly exploring new ways to express and uncover the essence of each piece.

Painting is a metaphor for life. As human beings, we accumulate layers—through culture, conditioning, and experience—often losing touch with our true selves. My artistic journey has become one of peeling back these layers, both in my work and within myself, to rediscover what has always been there. Painting is transformation. It is timeless. It is joy. It is love.

At times, the process demands patience—paintings can take weeks or months to fully emerge. There is an internal dialogue, a tension between control and surrender, as each piece finds its own voice. Over the years, I’ve realized that just like my paintings, I am constantly evolving, learning, and letting go.

Before dedicating myself to art, I spent decades in the medical field as a physician assistant. Facing burnout, I turned to abstract painting as a form of healing—a refuge for my restless mind. Art became a balm, a way to process and express the intangible.

Now, my work is not only personal but also a space for others to find healing. Through my paintings, I hope to inspire introspection, connection, and a remembrance of the beauty and wisdom that exists within us all.
